Image Album: photos / 2016-08-13 -- Pacific Symphony Presents Raiders of the Lost Ark

Album Description

I luckily got a chance to visit the Irvine Meadows Amphitheatre one last time before the scum-sucking Irvine Company tears it down next year to put in more apartment buildings. Sigh, so many sad losses on that piece of land: Lion Country Safari, Camp Frasier, Wild Rivers, and now, finally, Irvine Meadows. At least Frasier the Lion's grave is apparently unmolested, though my understanding was that it was marked by a hillside cross that used to be visible from the 405, not by a tree.

Anyhow, I got to see one of my favorite films, Raiders of the Lost Ark, with the score performed live by the Pacific Symphony. They did an awesome job. Most of the time, their performance was indistinguishable from the original recording, except in the equalization of the instruments. People got into the event with authentic Indy costumes (I noticed one guy's bullwhip was even allowed in without question), a vaguely Ark-shaped cooler carried in by four guys on poles like those used to carry the Ark, etc. Here are a few quickie photos to mark the occasion.
