At UCI for our general ed. requirement, we needed to take one year's worth of art classes. The vast majority of people took Art History to fulfill this requirement, which sounded quite dull to me, but luckily it was possible to take Studio Art, where you'd actually get to create art rather than just looking at it and getting tested on recognition of it. The course was taught from a very modern art perspective, and spent literally zero time on teaching technique, which I found unfortunate since I wish I could improve my drawing skills, and try out painting and sculpting. It was still a lot of fun though.
In the first class, Studio Art 30A, one of the assignments was to create a book of 36 photos, all on one topic. That was about the extent of the direction. I decided to make a narrative out of my photos (so please go through them in order) — a dark comedy.
After you go through the photos without captions, as they appeared in the photo book, you can check out the commentary version, which also includes a scan of the comment sheet the reviewers wrote on.
