Album Description
Santa Barbara Zoo, 2012-05-27. While
visiting up at my buddy Andy Stewart's place in Santa Barbara, I woke up earlier
than my friends on Sunday morning (I've often been waking up prior to 8 hours of
sleep recently, which is unusual for me), so I decided to pop over to the Santa
Barbara Zoo for an hour or so (thus I only took time to photograph a few of the
animals I viewed) while people finished waking up and showering. Admission was
free for me since I'm a member of my little local zoo, the Santa Ana Zoo, and they both participate
in the same exchange. The relatively sprawling grounds are quite beautiful, and
I think the original name the Santa Barbara Zoological Gardens is more apt than
the current shortened name. Some awesome animals and lovely exhibits — I
highly recommend it to animal (or botanical gardens) fans finding themselves in
Santa Barbara.
The photos were the first ones I took with my new Huawei M650 Android smartphone
(AKA Express from Sprint), except for the three photos taken with my iPhone 3GS
which are so marked. Obviously the iPhone camera has the better image quality,
although the Huawei is unfairly hampered by the somewhat extreme amount of
smoothing the Android Camera app is apparently doing here before the JPEG
compression (some of the photos look like they've ben through a Photoshop oil
painting filter!). I use the Pro HDR app on my iPhone 3GS to do HDR photography
when it's a still enough subject with a high enough dynamic range to warrant it,
and I see it's available for Android too, so I'll have to try it out to see
whether it avoids that smoothing.
Instructions
Simply click on any file size figure to get a page with just
that image, including its caption (if any),
a toggle for additional info (e.g. EXIF data),
and arrow buttons that will take you to the previous and next
images.
Clicking on the "File" column heading will collapse
the table below to exclude the inline thumbnails.
Clicking on one of the other column headings will get
you a page containing ALL the images in that particular file
format and size, with their captions (if any) printed alongside
them.
