		It's a bitch to get makeup right up to a hairline without getting it in the hair, so it's easy to understand why it became the traditional style to back well off from the hairline, as seen here. For some reason, there's much more of a back-off on the back of the head, though (especially visible in the next shot). Guess they just transformed the practical technique into an ornamental feature.
